A chaos magick technique that uses a self-designed gnosis spiral to fling consciousness free of the body for rapid, destination-agnostic astral scouting.
Ritual Overview
Chaos magick treats belief as a tool rather than a fixed truth, and the Vortex Launch applies that same pragmatism to astral projection: instead of the slow, patient techniques of ceremonial astral work, it uses a deliberately induced altered state — spinning, hyperventilation-adjacent breathing, or repetitive percussive sound — to shock consciousness loose from the body all at once.
The practitioner designs their own 'vortex sigil,' a spiral-based glyph charged specifically to represent unrestricted, directionless departure, and gazes into it while inducing gnosis through physical spinning or rhythmic drumming. When the trance peaks, the sigil is 'released' mentally, and the resulting astral launch tends to be fast, disorienting, and short-range compared to more disciplined methods — but useful for quick reconnaissance or breaking through a plateau in more formal projection practice.
Because the method deliberately courts disorientation, it's best used by practitioners who already have some baseline astral experience and simply want a faster on-ramp, rather than as a first introduction to projection.
Ritual Steps
Design the Vortex Sigil
Draw an original spiral-based sigil charged specifically with the intent of unrestricted astral launch, done in advance of the working itself.

Clear a section of floor for spinning or sit centrally if using drumming instead, and light the incense.
5 minutes
Induce Gnosis
Spin slowly and steadily, or drum a fast steady rhythm, while gazing at or holding the vortex sigil in mind, building toward a trance peak.
10-15 minutes
Visualization
The room and the sigil both dissolving into a single spinning blur of light.
Release the Sigil
At the trance's peak, mentally release the sigil's charge entirely, letting the built intent fling awareness outward and free of the body.
5 minutes
Visualization
Consciousness snapping loose like a slingshot, launched into open dark space.
Scout and Return
Move through the astral space quickly, noting impressions rather than lingering, then will yourself back with a simple return phrase.
