Oracle of the Obsidian Gate
A scrying ritual using an obsidian mirror to open a gateway to the akashic records, allowing the practitioner to perceive past, present, and future simultaneously.
Ritual Overview
Obsidian — volcanic glass born of fire and earth — has been used for divination since the earliest human civilizations. The Oracle of the Obsidian Gate is an advanced scrying technique that uses a polished obsidian sphere or mirror to create a portal through which the practitioner can view the akashic records — the ethereal library containing all events, thoughts, and emotions that have ever occurred or will ever occur.
The ritual requires absolute darkness except for a single candle placed behind the scryer, so that no light reflects directly onto the obsidian surface. The practitioner enters a light trance state through rhythmic breathing and gazes into the black depths of the stone. Unlike clear quartz or water scrying, obsidian does not show images directly. Instead, it shows the absence of light, and into that absence, visions begin to appear in the periphery of vision.
The key to the Obsidian Gate is learning to see without looking. The practitioner must soften their gaze to the point where they are seeing the space just in front of the stone rather than the stone itself. When this state is achieved, the obsidian becomes a window into the akashic realm, and the visions come freely. With practice, the practitioner can ask specific questions and receive detailed answers from the records of time itself.
Ritual Steps
Create Total Darkness
Seal all light from the room. Light only the black candle and place it behind and above your head, so its light does not fall on the obsidian. The obsidian must appear as a perfect black void.
10 minutes
Visualization
The room dissolves into formless darkness. The only point of reference is the black candle behind you, its warmth at the back of your neck.
Enter the Trance
Sit comfortably before the obsidian. Breathe in a 4-4-4-4 pattern (inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4) for several minutes. Allow your eyelids to droop. Your awareness should float just behind your physical eyes.
10 minutes
Visualization
Your consciousness separates from your body, floating upward and backward, observing yourself observing the obsidian.
Gaze into the Void
Gaze at the obsidian with unfocused eyes. Do not try to see anything. Allow your vision to blur. After several minutes, you will notice movement in the peripheral darkness — swirls, pinpricks of light, or forms that disappear when you look directly at them.
20 minutes
Visualization
The obsidian is no longer a solid surface but a gateway into infinite black space. Shapes begin to form in the distance — approaching, resolving, revealing.
Ask and Receive
When the obsidian feels alive and responsive, ask your question silently in your mind. Wait. The answer may come as images in the stone, words in your mind, or a sudden knowing in your heart. Do not judge or filter.
15 minutes
Visualization
Your question travels into the obsidian like a stone dropped into black water, and the ripples that return carry images, symbols, and answers.
Close the Gate
Thank the obsidian and close the gate by covering it with the black silk cloth. Blow out the candle and turn on a soft light. Eat something grounding and write down every impression before it fades.
5 minutes
Visualization
The obsidian's surface goes from liquid black to solid black, and you feel a subtle click as the gate closes.
Warnings & Ethics
Scrying into the akashic records can reveal traumatic information. Be prepared for anything. Never scry when emotionally distressed.
