Pentacle of the Moon: Dream Oracle's Seal

The 5th Pentacle of the Moon is one of the lunar seals recorded in Book I of the Key of Solomon (Clavicula Salomonis), and its documented virtue speaks directly to one of the oldest forms of divination practiced in the Western tradition: Mathers' translation records that this pentacle serves 'to have answers in sleep,' placing it alongside incubation rites practiced from ancient Epidaurus onward, where seekers slept in sacred spaces expecting the gods to answer them through dreams.

The Moon's rulership over sleep, the unconscious, and the tides of the body makes it the natural planetary seat for such a working, and the Key's pentacle system treats this virtue as literal and practical rather than merely symbolic: the pentacle is not meant to be scried or read before sleep, but physically placed where it can act upon the sleeper through the night. This working follows that instruction directly, pairing the pentacle with a written question and a place beneath the pillow.

The pentacle is inscribed in silver or pale blue-grey ink in the hour of the Moon, bordered with divine names as the Key prescribes throughout its pentacle chapters, and consecrated beneath moonlight where possible rather than by daylight or candle alone. As with all dream-incubation work, the seeker is advised to keep a journal at hand, since the pentacle's documented answers tend to arrive as ordinary-seeming dream imagery rather than plain sentences, and their meaning is often only clear on waking.
