The General Conjuration

The Goetia's core invocation, adapted as a general-purpose calling for insight, guidance, or a specific quality of knowledge from beyond ordinary waking awareness.

Ritual Overview

At the center of the Ars Goetia, the first book of the Lesser Key of Solomon, stands a single long invocation the text simply calls "The Invocation." In its original form it begins, addressed to a named spirit: "I do invocate and conjure thee, O Spirit N.; and being with power armed from the Supreme Majesty, I do strongly command thee, by Beralanensis, Baldachiensis, Paumachia, and Apologiae Sedes..." and continues through a dense litany of divine names — Adonai, El, Elohim, Tetragrammaton, Zabaoth among them — commanding the spirit "to appear before this Circle in a fair and comely shape, without any deformity or tortuosity," to come peaceably, without noise or hurt, and to speak truly to whatever is asked.

Stripped of its specific spirit-summoning frame, the invocation is really a template for lawful calling: it establishes who is speaking, by what authority they speak, what quality of response they demand (clear, undistorted, non-harmful), and where the response is to appear. That structure is useful for far more than evoking a named entity — it is a template for any working in which you deliberately open yourself to receive something from outside the boundary of your ordinary conscious mind: intuition, a solution to a problem you've been stuck on, clarity about a decision, or contact with a guiding aspect of your own deeper self.

Used this way, the General Conjuration becomes a discipline of asking well. You name plainly what you are calling for, you invoke the authority and clarity you want it to arrive with, and you set firm terms — comely and undistorted, without deformity or confusion — for the form the answer should take.

Ritual Steps

1

Cast Circle and Triangle

Establish your protective circle and, just outside it, a Triangle of Art or equivalent designated space where the answer is to appear.

15 minutes

Visualization

Both structures settle into steady light, circle and triangle bound together by a single thread of intent.

2

Name What You Seek

Write plainly on the paper the specific insight, clarity, or quality of knowledge you are calling for. Read it aloud once.

5 minutes

3

Speak the Conjuration

Standing within your circle, speak a paraphrase of the Goetic invocation: "I do call and conjure forth that which holds the answer I seek, and by the powers of Adonai, of El, of Elohim, of the Tetragrammaton, and of Zabaoth, I command that it come before me in a fair and comely form, without deformity, without confusion, and without harm, that it may answer truly to what I ask."

10 minutes

Visualization

The words leave you as a clean shaft of light, traveling outward from the circle toward the triangle and beyond it.

4

Wait and Receive

Sit quietly and observe whatever arises — an image, a phrase, a sudden certainty, a memory. Do not force the answer; let it arrive in the triangle's space.

10 minutes

Visualization

A shape resolves in the triangle, comely and undistorted, offering exactly what was asked without excess or noise.
