The ritual requires an actual iron horseshoe — not a decorative replica. Iron is the metal of protection and grounding, and a used horseshoe carries the additional charge of having been on a horse, an animal sacred to the sun and to war gods across many cultures. The horseshoe is cleaned, blessed, and then "magnetized" through a specific alignment with the four cardinal directions.
Once charged, the horseshoe is hung above a doorway with the open ends pointing up (to catch and hold luck) or down (to pour luck upon all who enter).
