Ritual Overview

The Chain of Oaths is a binding of contract — a magical agreement that, once forged, cannot be broken without consequences. Unlike other bindings that rely on force or containment, this working binds through free-willed oath-making. Both parties (in the case of a mutual agreement) or the practitioner themselves (in the case of self-binding) speak their oaths aloud within a consecrated circle, and those oaths are linked through a physical chain of linked sigils.

The chain itself is made of paper or thin metal links, each inscribed with a sigil representing one oath or one term of the agreement. As each link is added, the corresponding oath is spoken and witnessed by the elements and the divine names invoked at the start of the ritual. The chain grows link by link until all oaths have been made and recorded.

Once complete, the chain is sealed with wax and stored in a secure place. If any party breaks their oath, the chain grows cold — the practitioner will feel it as a physical sensation of cold on the skin — and the broken oath must be addressed before the chain can be restored. The Chain of Oaths is considered one of the most honorable and unbreakable forms of magical binding because it is entered into voluntarily and witnessed by the divine.

Ritual Steps

1

Write the Oaths

Each oath must be written in clear, unambiguous language on a separate strip of parchment or metal. Each strip also receives a unique sigil created by the person making that oath. No oath may be vague.

30 minutes

Visualization

As you write each oath, the words appear to glow on the page, infused with the power of your intention and your spoken witness.

2

Speak the Oaths

Stand within the circle. If two parties are involved, face each other. Take the first oath-strip and read it aloud clearly. When finished, link it with a ring to the previous strip. Say: "By this link, this oath is bound. Spoken and witnessed, let it be held."

30 minutes

Visualization

As each oath is spoken, a point of light appears above your head. When the link is added, the points of light connect, forming a chain ascending toward the divine.

3

Forge the Complete Chain

Continue adding oaths and links until all are connected. The final link should connect the last oath back to the first, forming an Ouroboros — a complete circle of commitment.

15 minutes

Visualization

The chain of light completes its circle, and a pulse of energy travels around it — each oath confirming and reinforcing all the others.

4

Seal with Wax

Drip sealing wax over the final link and impress the seal. As the wax cools, say: "This chain is forged. These oaths are sealed. May the divine witness what has been sworn here. So mote it be."

10 minutes

Visualization

The wax seals the chain not just physically but energetically. The chain of light solidifies into a permanent structure, witnessed by the elements and the names of power.

5

Store the Chain

Place the sealed chain in its box or pouch and store it in a place of honor. Both parties should keep a copy of the oaths for reference. The chain may be removed and displayed on anniversaries of the binding.

10 minutes

Visualization

The chain rests in its container, humming with contained power. It is a living record of the oaths — and it will know if they are ever broken.

Warnings & Ethics

This is a sacred contract. Breaking an oath made in this manner has spiritual consequences. Ensure all parties fully understand and freely consent to every oath before speaking it.
