Solomonic Binding of Spirits
The classic binding from the Key of Solomon, using the divine names of power to bind a spirit — or a person's harmful actions — within a triangle of confinement.
Ritual Overview
The Solomonic Binding is drawn directly from the Greater Key of Solomon, the foundational grimoire of Western ceremonial magic. While traditionally used to bind spirits during evocation, the principles of this binding can be applied to any force that needs to be contained — including the harmful actions of a living person. The binding uses the power of the divine names to create an unbreakable constraint that limits the target's ability to act outside of defined boundaries.
The central tool of the binding is the Triangle of Art — a triangle inscribed within a circle, placed outside the protective circle of the practitioner. Within this triangle, the target (whether spirit or person) is confined for the duration of the binding. The triangle is inscribed with the names of God appropriate to the binding: YHVH, ADNI, AHIH, and AGLA are inscribed at the three points and at the center.
Once the triangle is prepared and the target sympathetically linked to it, the practitioner reads the binding conjuration from the Key of Solomon, commanding the target by the most holy and terrible names of God. The binding takes immediate effect and remains in place until the practitioner dismisses it or until the terms of the binding are fulfilled. For binding a living person's harmful actions, the working is most effective when renewed at each waning moon.
Ritual Steps
Cast the Magical Circle
Perform the LBRP to clear the space. Then cast a standard ceremonial circle 9 feet in diameter using the athame. The circle is your protected space from which you will command the binding.
20 minutes
Visualization
The circle is a ring of blue-white fire, impenetrable to any force you do not invite. Within it, you are sovereign.
Draw the Triangle of Art
Outside the circle (to the north or east), draw a triangle with 3-foot sides using chalk or paint. At each point, inscribe a divine name: "YHVH" (top), "ADNI" (lower right), "AHIH" (lower left). At the center, inscribe "AGLA." Place a black candle at each point.
30 minutes
Visualization
As you trace each name, it blazes with golden fire. The triangle becomes a cage of divine light, waiting to contain the target.
Place the Sympathetic Link
Place the personal object of the target at the center of the triangle, over the AGLA inscription. This object now represents the target and will be bound in their place.
5 minutes
Visualization
A thin silver cord connects the object to the actual target, wherever they are. Through this cord, the binding will travel.
Read the Conjuration
Stand within the circle, facing the triangle. Read the binding conjuration from the Key of Solomon: "I bind thee, O spirit, by the most holy names of God. Thou shalt not move beyond this triangle. Thou shalt not harm. Thou shalt be bound until I release thee." Repeat seven times with increasing authority.
15 minutes
Visualization
With each repetition, bands of golden light wrap around the triangle, crossing at the center over the target object. The bands tighten, becoming chains of pure divine command.
Seal and Dismiss
Ring the bell three times. Say: "The binding is sealed. By YHVH, ADNI, AHIH, and AGLA, I have bound. So shall it remain until I unloose." Extinguish the candles and close the circle. The binding is now active.
10 minutes
Visualization
The triangle and its chains of light sink into the earth, becoming invisible but intact. The target object, now fully bound, can be stored safely.
Warnings & Ethics
This is a serious binding and should not be performed for trivial reasons. The divine names invoked are powerful and demand respect. Ensure you have sufficient training before attempting this working.
