Ritual Overview

The serpent is one of the oldest symbols of binding in human history — the serpent that coils around the world, the serpent that holds the secrets of life and death, the serpent that constricts its prey with patient, irresistible force. The Serpent Coil Binding draws upon this primal archetype to bind negative forces, whether they are external entities, the harmful behaviors of another person, or one's own destructive patterns.

The binding uses a length of cord or chain to represent the serpent. This cord is ritually charged over seven days, each day dedicated to one of the seven chakras. The cord is anointed, smoked, and spoken over until it becomes saturated with the intention of binding. The color of the cord may vary depending on the target: black for binding external enemies, green for binding jealousy, red for binding anger, or white for binding one's own negative habits.

When the cord is fully charged, it is tied in a specific knot — the Coil Knot — that represents the serpent's head and tail meeting. This knot is the lock of the binding. As long as the knot remains tied, the binding remains active. The practitioner keeps the knotted cord in a safe place, and if the binding needs to be released, the knot is simply untied.

Ritual Steps

1

Day 1: Root Chakra — Ground the Binding

Light the red candle. Hold the cord and the target object over the candle flame (at a safe distance). Say: "I bind at the root. May this binding be grounded in the earth. May it be unshakeable." Anoint the cord with the binding herb mixture.

30 minutes

Visualization

The root chakra of the target is wrapped in a coil of red energy. The binding is anchored deep in the earth, immovable.

2

Day 2-6: Remaining Chakras

Each day, light the corresponding chakra candle and bind the corresponding energy center. Sacral (orange, emotions), Solar Plexus (yellow, power), Heart (green, love), Throat (blue, speech), Third Eye (indigo, thought), Crown (violet, spirit). Each day, the coil tightens.

30 minutes per day

Visualization

Each day, another coil wraps around the target, covering another energy center. By day 6, only the crown remains free.

3

Day 7: Crown Chakra — Final Coil

Light the violet candle. Tie the final Coil Knot in the cord — a figure-eight knot that brings the two ends together. Say: "Seven coils are wound. Seven centers are bound. By root and crown, by heart and mind, I bind. So mote it be."

30 minutes

Visualization

The final coil wraps around the crown, and the serpent consumes its own tail. The circle of binding is complete. The target is fully contained.

4

Store the Binding

Place the knotted cord in a black pouch or box and store it in a dark place. The binding is now active. Do not disturb the knot.

10 minutes

Visualization

The cord glows with a faint serpentine light within the pouch, its coils holding steady. The serpent sleeps, but it does not release.

5

Monthly Maintenance

Each month on the waning moon, take out the cord and speak the initial binding words again to reinforce. Do not untie the knot.

10 minutes

Visualization

The serpent stirs, tightens its coils slightly, then settles again — the binding refreshed.

Warnings & Ethics

This binding, once completed, should not be undone lightly. The Coil Knot is designed to hold. Be certain you want this binding to last before tying the final knot.
