Sigilization of Desire
The classic chaos magick method of sigilization — condensing a desire into a symbolic glyph, charging it through gnosis, and releasing it into the subconscious to manifest.
Ritual Overview
Sigilization of Desire is the most fundamental technique of chaos magick, the method by which a specific wish is programmed into the deep mind for automatic manifestation. The technique was systematized by Austin Osman Spare, the visionary artist and occultist who founded the modern theory of sigilization, and later developed by Peter Carroll and Ray Sherwin of the Illuminates of Thanateros.
The process begins with a clear statement of desire, written in the present tense as if already fulfilled: "I have the perfect job that pays me well and fulfills me." This statement is then "reduced" through a process of elimination — vowels are removed, repeated letters are eliminated, and the remaining consonants are arranged into an abstract glyph. This glyph, the sigil, is the symbolic representation of the desire, stripped of all verbal associations that might trigger conscious resistance.
The charging of the sigil is the critical step. The practitioner must enter a state of gnosis — an altered state of consciousness in which the conscious mind is silenced — and in that state, gaze intensely at the sigil, pouring all the energy of the desire into it. At the peak of gnosis, the sigil is "launched" into the subconscious by releasing it completely, often through orgasm, intense exhaustion, or the sudden cessation of an ecstatic practice.
Ritual Steps
Write the Desire Statement
Write a clear, present-tense statement of your desire. Be specific but not restrictive. Example: "I am flourishing in my creative career, earning abundance doing what I love." Write it in a single sentence.
10 minutes
Visualization
The words glow on the page as you write them, charged with your emotional energy. Each word is a seed of the reality you wish to grow.
Reduce the Statement to a Sigil
Cross out all vowels (A, E, I, O, U). Cross out all repeated letters. Arrange the remaining unique consonants into an abstract glyph. The glyph should be artistic and personal — it does not need to look like letters. Connect the lines, curve them, make it beautiful.
20 minutes
Visualization
The letters transform into pure geometry, losing all verbal meaning. The sigil is now a symbol of pure intent, bypassing the conscious mind entirely.
Enter Gnosis
Choose a method to achieve gnosis. Options include: spinning until dizzy, rapid hyperventilation, meditation to emptiness, sensory deprivation, chanting, or orgasm (masturbatory gnosis). The goal is to silence the conscious mind completely.
Variable (10-20 minutes)
Visualization
Your thoughts slow, then stop. There is only awareness without content. A void of potential, ready to receive the sigil.
Charge the Sigil
At the peak of gnosis, gaze intensely at the sigil. Focus all your desire, all your will, all your energy into the symbol. Then, at the moment of climax (whether of breath, orgasm, or ecstasy), release it completely — BURN the sigil, tear it up, or simply close your eyes and let it go.
5 minutes
Visualization
The sigil blazes with fire as you release it — the desire is launched into the universe. In that moment, you must forget it completely. The work is done.
Forget the Sigil
This is the most important step. Do NOT think about the sigil or the desire again. Obsessing over it blocks its manifestation. Trust the process. The sigil is now working in your subconscious, and the universe is aligning to bring your desire to reality.
Ongoing
Visualization
The sigil, now released, sinks into the depths of your subconscious like a stone in still water. It works invisibly, silently, effectively.
Warnings & Ethics
The key to sigilization is forgetting. If you obsess over the sigil after charging it, you block its effectiveness. Trust the process and let it go completely.
