Ritual Overview
The Bornless Ritual — also known as the Preliminary Invocation of the Goetia and the Headless Rite — is one of the most powerful self-deification rituals in the Western tradition. Its text appears in both the Greek Magical Papyri (PGM V) and the Goetia of the Lemegeton, where it serves to establish the magician's authority over spirits by identifying the practitioner with the ultimate divine source.
In the context of wisdom-seeking, the Bornless Ritual is performed not to command spirits but to experience directly one's own eternal nature. The practitioner recites the ancient words — "I am the Bornless Spirit, existing before the foundation of the Earth" — and feels the truth of those words resonating through every level of their being. This is not an act of ego inflation but a recognition of the divine spark that exists within every human being.
The ritual is divided into invocations of the four directions, each accompanied by a specific formula of identity. The practitioner becomes successively the God of the East, South, West, and North, each aspect adding a layer of divine authority and wisdom to their consciousness. By the end of the ritual, the practitioner stands as a fully realized being, aware of their unity with all that is, was, and ever shall be.
Ritual Steps
Purification
Sprinkle yourself with the bowl of water (use your fingers). Taste a grain of salt. Ring the bell three times. This purifies body, mind, and spirit for the invocation to follow.

The Bornless Declaration
Face east. Extend your arms in the shape of the cross or raised in invocation. Recite: "Heaven is my Father. The AEther is my God. The Earth is my Body. The Wind is my Soul. I am the Bornless Spirit, existing before the foundation of the Earth."

Your physical form becomes a garment that you are wearing, and within that garment, a form of pure light — your Bornless Self — awakens.
The Fourfold Invocation
Face each direction in turn, intoning the appropriate names and formulas. East: "I invoke thee, the Headless One, that didst create the Earth and the Heavens." South: "I invoke thee, that didst separate the Light from the Darkness." West: "I invoke thee, that didst establish the foundations upon which the Universe rests." North: "I invoke thee, the Lord of Life, the King of the Gods."

The Sealing
Return to facing east. Vibrate the full formula: "IAO — SABAOTH — ABRAXAS — AGLA — ON." These are the names of power that seal the invocation. Feel yourself expanded, enlightened, one with all that is.

Return and Ground
Ring the bell once. Take three deep breaths. Stamp your feet. Eat a small piece of bread or fruit to ground. The wisdom gained will integrate over the following hours and days.
