Ritual Overview
Thoth — the Egyptian god of writing, magic, wisdom, and the measurement of time — is the great scribe of the gods, the being who recorded the words of creation and who holds the knowledge of all sciences, arts, and mysteries. The Wisdom of Thoth is an invocation ritual that calls upon this god of knowledge to bless the practitioner with mental clarity, deepened understanding, and access to the archetypal patterns that underlie reality.
The ritual requires an image or statue of Thoth — typically depicted with the head of an ibis or as a baboon — placed upon an altar of wisdom. The practitioner prepares by study: for three days before the invocation, they contemplate a specific subject they wish to understand more deeply. This preparation charges the intention and opens the mind to receive Thoth's illumination.
During the invocation, the practitioner recites the hymns to Thoth from the Egyptian Book of the Dead while meditating on the ibis-headed god's image. Thoth's presence is felt as a sharpening of the mind — thoughts become clearer, concepts snap into focus, and understanding dawns. The knowledge received is not always verbal; it often comes as sudden comprehension, the ability to see connections that were previously invisible, and an unshakeable certainty about the truth.
Ritual Steps
Three Days of Preparation
For three days before the invocation, spend 30 minutes each day studying the subject you wish to understand. Write down everything you know about it, then write down what you wish to know. Sleep with the emerald or turquoise under your pillow.

Set the Altar of Wisdom
Place the Thoth image at the center of the altar. Flank it with the blue and gold candles. Place the papyrus and pen before the image. Light the frankincense and arrange the stone next to the papyrus.

The Invocation of Thoth
Stand before the altar. Recite the Hymn to Thoth: "O Thoth, great god of wisdom, scribe of the gods, lord of the divine words, I invoke you. Open my mind to your knowledge. Sharpen my understanding. Grant me clarity." Vibrate the name "DJEHUTY" nine times.

The image of Thoth comes alive. His ibis-head turns toward you, and his eyes — dark and knowing — look directly into your soul. The air around you sharpens, and your thoughts become preternaturally clear.
Write the Wisdom
Take the pen and sit before the papyrus. Ask Thoth your question silently. Wait, and then begin to write whatever comes — even if it seems unrelated or nonsensical at first. Trust the flow. Thoth writes through your hand.

Your hand moves across the papyrus, guided by Thoth. Words flow that you did not consciously know. Insights appear on the page that reveal connections you never saw.
Seal and Study
Thank Thoth for his presence and extinguish the candles. Fold the papyrus and keep it in your journal. Study what you wrote over the following days — its meaning will unfold gradually. Wear the emerald or turquoise for seven days to retain the connection.
