A single stroke performed at first light ties the tool's creation to a specific, unrepeatable moment, and Mercury's day was chosen because the wand functions throughout the Key as an instrument of direction, command, and swift communication between the operator's will and the working at hand — precisely Mercury's domain. Once cut, the wood is stripped, dried, and consecrated with a prayer the Key records beginning, 'ADONAI, most holy, EL, most strong, deign to bless and to consecrate this wand...', asking that the plain length of wood be invested with power proper to the Art.
