Seal of the Silenced Tongue

An Enochian binding that seals a specific source of gossip or slander, choking off the spread of malicious speech at its point of origin.

Duration
90 minutes
Steps
5 stages

Ritual Overview

Words carry differently once they leave a mouth in bad faith. The Seal of the Silenced Tongue is built specifically for slander and gossip — not for silencing disagreement or honest criticism, which the working explicitly cannot touch, but for cutting off speech intended to damage a reputation through lies or deliberate distortion. It draws on Enochian angelic script for the seal itself, on the reasoning that a binding written in a language never meant for casual human speech has no leverage points a human tongue can talk its way around.

The target's name is written on bay leaf or paper in mundane script, then enclosed within an Enochian seal copied carefully from the appropriate tablet, the letters drawn in a continuous, unbroken line around the name so the name cannot be read without passing through the seal first. Whole cloves and black pepper — both traditionally associated with silencing and binding the tongue — are bound into the same small packet, and the entire bundle is stitched shut with black thread rather than merely tied, since a working aimed at stopping speech benefits from a closure that cannot be picked open with fingers alone.

The finished packet is buried in a place the offending party has no reason to visit, or submerged in a jar of vinegar and sealed with wax if burial is not possible — vinegar's souring quality is meant to turn the slander sour in the speaker's own mouth before it reaches anyone else. Because this is a targeted binding rather than a curse, it does not seek to harm the offender, only to stop the specific behavior; practitioners report the gossip typically stops within days to weeks, though the exact mechanism, whether the person simply loses interest or finds themselves oddly unable to bring the subject up, varies.

Ritual Steps

1

Write the Name

On the bay leaf or a small square of paper, write the full name of the person spreading the slander, in plain mundane script.

5 minutes

Visualization

The written name sitting flat and inert on the leaf, ordinary until the seal is added around it.

2

Draw the Enochian Seal

Copy the appropriate binding seal from the Enochian tablet in a single continuous line completely enclosing the written name, taking care not to lift the pen mid-line.

20 minutes

Visualization

The angelic script glowing faintly gold as it closes around the name, sealing it inside a small locked chamber of light.

3

Bind the Packet

Fold the sealed name closed around a pinch of whole cloves and black peppercorns, then stitch the packet firmly shut with black thread using small, tight stitches.

20 minutes

Visualization

Each stitch tightening the light around the name a little further, like drawstrings pulled closed one at a time.

4

Sour the Working

Place the stitched packet in the glass jar, cover completely with white vinegar, and seal the lid tightly with a drip of black candle wax around the rim.

15 minutes

Visualization

The vinegar turning briefly cloudy as the packet sinks, then clearing again to a sharp, sour transparency.

5

Remove and Conceal

Take the sealed jar somewhere the offending party has no reason to visit — a stranger's property line, a public drain far from your home, or buried on unfamiliar land — and leave it there without looking back.

30 minutes

Visualization

The jar growing dimmer and more forgettable the further you carry it, until it feels like an object you never actually owned.

Warnings & Ethics

This working is intended only for deliberate slander or malicious gossip. Using it against honest criticism or disagreement is both ethically unsound and, by most practitioner accounts, simply ineffective.
