Ritual Overview
The Discordant Ledger borrows its structure from bookkeeping rather than folklore: instead of imagining fate as a wheel or a thread, it treats consequence as an account that can fall out of balance and must eventually be reconciled. Chaos magic's core insight — that belief itself is a tool to be picked up and set down as needed — is used here to construct, deliberately, the belief that a documented wrong creates a debt, and that debts placed in the ledger get collected.
This is an expert-tier working precisely because it demands total honesty in the entry: the ledger records only harms the practitioner can state factually, with dates and specifics, not grievances inflated by anger. A vague or exaggerated entry produces a vague, unreliable result, and chaos magic punishes sloppy intent more reliably than almost any other tradition.
The rite closes with the ledger physically sealed — never reopened, never re-read — because re-reading an old entry is understood to reopen the account and dilute the working with fresh emotion. What happens after the ledger is closed is deliberately left to unfold on its own terms; the working states the debt and stops, rather than specifying a punishment.
Ritual Steps
Open the Account
On the night of the dark moon, open the ledger to its first page and write the date, the person's name, and a single factual sentence describing the documented harm.

Beneath the opening entry, list each specific consequence you have suffered, dated where possible, avoiding any language you could not defend as literally true.

Set the coin on the final line of the entry as a marker that the account is now considered open and outstanding.
